The World Bank has secured grant funding from the Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery to undertake technical assistance activities focused on Resilient Infrastructure and Urban Transformation for the Government of Turkey and three municipalities, including Rize, Kahramanmaraş and Tekirdağ Provincial Municipalities. The technical assistance has the objective to collate existing disaster and climate risk data at the city-scale, assess the resilience of critical and planned infrastructure and urban transformations areas, and build capacity to integrate climate and disaster resilience into infrastructure investments.

The project involves:

  • Screening, preparing, and implementing infrastructure investments which consider climate and disaster resilience,
  • Building capacity in municipalities to identify, record, and assess multi-hazard and climate risks to support the development of a resilient city approach, prioritized investment plans and enhanced preparedness, and
  • Undertaking capacity development and advisory services in activities in municipalities that support implementation of the National Guidelines for Municipalities for Urban Transformation strategies.
