Preparation of Izmir Green City Action Plan

The overall objective of this project is to support of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality to develop a Green City Action Plan (GCAP) approved by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality. The GCAP is a part of EBRD’s Green Cities Framework and covers a wide range of urban environmental challenges.

For this purpose, the GCAP for Izmir is prepared to identify, prioritise and address the priority environmental challenges, and establish a vision and projects to enable a green future for the City. Izmir’s GCAP has been developed with input from over 100 stakeholders. It proposes actions including infrastructure investments, policy measures, capacity development and advocacy, all of which are designed to help achieve a vision for a green Izmir. The main aim is to assist Izmir Metropolitan Municipality to systematically address its environmental issues.

Within the scope of this project, following studies have been carried out as an Environmental Lead:

  • identify priorities and develop interventions for the environmental and sustainability challenges the City faces
  • map the existing legislative and policy context
  • analysis of the key State, Pressure and Response indicators
  • establish an environmental baseline and key mitigation activities
  • determine the existing and planned projects
  • understand gaps in delivery and opportunities for action
  • conduct the capacity building sessions
